Travelling time: 5.5 hours
The next morning we left Christchurch for Franz Josef to see the Fox Glacier.
We travelled across the Canterbury plains through Kirwee, Darfield, Sheffield and Springfield. The scenery changes from town to town.
Stopped by Lake Pearson along the way.

The road then winds upwards a little before Arthur's Pass, a mountain pass memorable for its scenery and civil engineering.
Long journey ahead, so stopped here to buy snacks to munch in the car.
On the way to Greymouth there is a tourist attraction, Shanty Town, a replica pioneer gold-mining town.

We finally reach the motel in Franz Josef in the evening.
