We are crossing over to the North Island today. My husband dropped us off at the ferry terminal and then returned the car to the Europcar office located beside the ferry terminal.
We checked in our luggage and then the kids used the coin operated internet kiosk while waiting for the ferry to arrive.
The journey takes 3 hours. Our ferry was the Aratere, which has a capacity for about 350 passengers, 230 vehicles and 60 railway wagons. There is a gift shop, a lounge, cafe, a children's playroom, a movie theatre and workstations for reading and writing.
We were wondering about the stink and discovered where it came from - a truckload of cows!
The view of Wellington city from the ferry
We reached Wellington about noon, had a quick lunch and headed for the Te Papa Museum. This is no ordinary museum, it is a high-tech place with lots of interactive activites. The children enjoyed themselves.
After a whole week of western food, my in-laws decided to have asian food instead and guess what we found?
My poor navigation skills got us lost for an hour in the middle of Wellington, trying to locate our motel :(
